3000 Mile Oil Changes Necessity Or Myth?
There is a lot of controversy around the subject of oil changes. Many people I've talked to believe there is a conspiracy around the idea that your oil needs to be changed every 3000 miles (5000 kilometres).I've even had suspicions myself at times. I certainly felt I was wasting oil by changing it so often but I had no way of telling whether I needed to or not. Was the oil still good when it was black and looked dirty? Did I damage my engine during those times I did go over that 3000 mile limit? How do I find that out? When I did go over that (black) magic number, the mechanic would scold me for waiting so long to change my oil. Then the job would get none and nothing more was said, except...next time, 3000 miles, OK?. I still did not know if what I didn't know about my oil's condition was hurting my engine or not. Well, now I do. And you can know, too. If you haven't already, I invite you to subscribe to my free newsletter (upper right) where I go into a lot more detail on my synthetic oil testing.
